A Look Back at the IPPA Project

For one week, 104 trainees from Magdeburg University Medical Center collaborated in an interprofessional setting as part of the IPPA project at the Training Center for Healthcare Professions (AZG).

Trainees from the general nursing program, the Medical Technologist for Laboratory Analysis (MTL) program, the Medical Technologist for Radiology (MTR) program, the Surgical Technologist (OTA) program, and the Anesthesia Technologist (ATA) program were divided into mixed groups so that all professional groups were represented. Together, they worked on a case study and visited several stations from the respective departments daily throughout the week.

The schedule was deliberately structured: Tuesday focused on nursing, Wednesday on laboratory and radiology, and Thursday on anesthesia and the operating room. The week was complemented by a guest lecture from a paramedic with the Saxony-Anhalt Police. In addition, the trainees gained insights into hospice work as well as the Herzenswunsch ambulance, which fulfills the last wishes of seriously ill people.

However, the project focused on more than just getting to know individual tasks: The trainees had the opportunity to break down prejudices, better understand the roles of other professional groups, and develop a genuine sense of collaboration. Over the course of the week, many surpassed their own expectations, gained new perspectives, and experienced how important effective teamwork is for the best possible patient care.

At the end of the week, the groups presented their insights, experiences, and the goals and wishes they had formulated at the beginning, impressively demonstrating how much they had gained from this time spent together.
