University Medicine Magdeburg and MEDIAN Clinic NRZ Magdeburg conclude co-operation agreement
Cooperation in consultation services and teleradiology strengthens neurological care and rehabilitation medicine in the region.
The University Medical Centre Magdeburg and the MEDIAN Clinic NRZ Magdeburg have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement to optimise the care of patients with neurological and neurosurgical diseases. The partnership combines the maximum medical care and internationally renowned research of Magdeburg University Medicine with the cross-phase neurological rehabilitation expertise of the NRZ Magdeburg. The collaboration between specialists and the use of modern teleradiology will significantly improve patient care and strengthen Saxony-Anhalt as a healthcare location.
High-quality care for patients
The cooperation enables acute medicine and neurological rehabilitation to be closely interlinked. The NRZ Magdeburg, a model facility for cross-phase neurological rehabilitation - from ventilation to medical-occupational rehabilitation - benefits from the expertise of the specialists at Magdeburg University Hospital in the fields of neurosurgery, neuroradiology, intensive care medicine, internal medicine, gastroenterology and trauma surgery. Specialist consultation and teleradiology, including specialised neuroradiology services, enable faster diagnoses and tailor-made treatment plans. This is particularly important for patients with complex illnesses such as strokes or following intensive medical treatment (e.g. weaning).
‘For our patients, this partnership means a seamless care chain that combines the highest medical standards with state-of-the-art rehabilitation,’ explains Marco Bohn, Commercial Director of Magdeburg University Hospital. ‘Teleradiology enables us to exchange diagnostic imaging data in real time, making treatment even faster and more precise.’

Added value for the region and healthcare policy
The co-operation is a significant step forward for Magdeburg as a healthcare location. The close collaboration will improve the quality of care, avoid duplicate examinations and increase efficiency in the healthcare system. The use of modern teleradiology technologies strengthens the partnership, increases the attractiveness of the region for patients and specialists and supports medical training.
‘The intensified cooperation between acute treatment and rehabilitation, as agreed by our MEDIAN Clinic and Magdeburg University Hospital, is a timely step that benefits both patients and the teams at the respective facilities through the exchange of expertise,’ emphasises Stefanie Günther, Commercial Director of the MEDIAN Clinic NRZ Magdeburg, adding: "Our co-operation of seamless care is a forward-looking step, also with regard to the generally shorter length of stay after acute treatments, as envisaged in the course of the Hospital Care Improvement Act. "
Details of the co-operation
The agreement includes specialist medical advice in the fields of neurosurgery, neuroradiology, intensive care medicine, internal medicine, gastroenterology and trauma surgery as well as support through teleradiology. In return, the NRZ Magdeburg provides its expertise in rehabilitation medicine in order to optimise follow-up care. The collaboration starts with a pilot project in teleradiology and is to be extended to other areas in the coming years.
